Purple Coneflower-Echinacea purpurea

Bloom-Purple Cone Flower
This easy to grow plant is a must in prairie or native gardens. Purple dropping rays with brownish center discs flowers, bloom from midsummer to fall. Much loved by bees, butterflies and hummingbirds while blooming and songbirds when the seeds form in fall. The seed cones are a source of winter food for birds.

Growing about four feet tall in moist to medium soils and becoming drought tolerant when established.

Still used in modern times for medicinal purposes in pharmaceutical preparations.
